Syllabus Revisions

As we will not be able to have in-person classes for the rest of the semester, some changes to the syllabus are necessary. Since this is uncharted territory for all of us, further revisions may need to be made in the future. I will notify the class via email whenever this page is updated.

Pass/fail Policy

The College has altered the pass/fail policy this semester. Students may elect to take any course pass/fail, and may make that decision by May 1. If you are planning to major in Computer Science or Statistical and Data Sciences, for this semester you can still take this class pass/fail, and if you pass it will still fulfill the major requirement.

Exams

Rather than having a second midterm exam and a cumulative final exam, the second midterm exam will be moved to finals week and will cover material since the first exam. This exam will be given on Moodle.

Originally our final exam was scheduled for Wednesday of finals week. I will make it so that you may take the exam at any time you wish on Tuesday or Wednesday of finals week, and you will have 3 hours to complete it once you begin. I will write the exam so that it should take most students around 1 hour to complete.

Final Project

Rather than having a final exam, there will be a final project. Since it may be difficult for students to work in groups remotely, this will be an individual project.

Grading

Since we will no longer be having in-person classes, there will no longer be Plickers quizzes. Thus this component of the overall grade is reduced.

Because students may be in difficult situations affecting their ability to complete all assignments, the lowest 3 homework grades will be dropped.

Here is the new grading breakdown:

5% Plickers
50% Homework
25% Exams (12.5% each)
20% Final Project
